Notion's high efficiency is a direct result of our application of engineering expertise utilizing a state-of-the art CNC machinery and out commitment to tackling every single work phase. Quality and reliability are planned in from the first consultation with our customers, during analysis and requirement recognition with them, and during the implementation phase.

Technological skills alone are only a prerequisite of overall performance. The primary consideration is that all production factors – people, machines, materials readiness, washing of machined components, surface coating, heat treatment, special finishing, quality assurance, process planning, logistics – have to coordinated so that they produce more than just the sum of their parts.

Product development:
Product development at Notion is done in 3 phases:

  1. Conceptual phase
  2. Development phase
  3. Acceptance phase

Phase 1:
Conceptual phase: In a first step, product sample, drawings & specifications are obtained from customers, defining all product features within the customer’s requests. At this stage of the discussion, we will propose a tentative method of manufacture and obtain an appropriate response from customer on the most feasible route.

Phase 2:
During the development phase, the product features and customer’s requests are defined in the specifications are realized. Samples of our proposed method of manufacture will be furnished to customer for their acceptance. We would have developed toolings, jigs & fixtures necessary for the production of the product.

Phase 3:
During the acceptance phase, we work through the planned production control plan, the quality assurance plan, washing and surface coating plan, final inspection plan until the customer gives us the go ahead for mass production.

Quality Assurance
We have a strict quality control policy during materials testing, before and during production by in-line Process Quality Control methods and also Statistical Process Control to ensure quality and product assurance is achieved. Here, we have state-of-art equipment guarantees exact conformity to quality requirements.

Tooling & Fixtures Development
Our independence, thanks to our own tool grinding shop and development of forming and cutting tools in our own tool shop, gives us decisive advantages as far as precision, productivity and fast reaction times are concerned.

We ensure high precision in mass production by manufacturing tools, jigs and fixtures to the highest accuracy.

To successfully fulfill the high requirements with regard to precision and economically efficient machining times, we manufacture our tools from all kinds of different types of carbide and hard metals.

Process Engineering
After the product development is completed, the process development defines how the desired products will be produced.

Starting from the design drawings, the individual operations are defined. The required work packages are defined and production plans prepared. Advanced quality planning runs parallel with this. Upon approvals from all parties concerned, the implementation phase may start.

Once the work packages are implemented, the production of the product starts. During production, realization is continuously monitored and checked and the production flow adapted. After the completion of this stage and approval from the customer, the production of the first series parts will start.

Machining Processes
Notion has close to 1,000 CNC machines and therefore we can offer flexibility of manufacture of different permutation of machining processes to achive the least machine cycle time.

There are many kinds of machining operations, each of which is capable of generating a certain part geometry and surface texture.

In 'Turning' a cutting tool with a single cutting edge is used to remove material from a rotating workpiece to generate a cylindrical shape. The speed motion in turning is provided by the rotating workpart, and the feed motion is achieved by the cutting tool moving slowly in a direction parallel to the axis of rotation of the workpiece.

'Drilling' is used to create a round hole. It is accomplished by a rotating tool that is typically has two cutting edges. The tool is fed in a direction parallel to its axis of rotation into the workpart to form the round hole.

In 'Boring' the tool is used to enlarge an already available hole. It is a fine finishing operation used in the final stages of product manufacture.

In 'Milling' a rotating tool with multiple cutting edges is moved slowly relative to the material to generate a plane or straight surface. The direction of the feed motion is perpendicular to the tool's axis of rotation. The speed motion is provided by the rotating milling cutter.

Surface Treatment
Many of the machined parts produced by Notion require further surface coating for durability, corrosion prevention, hardness, toughness and we have currently 2 surface treatment technology.

First, all aluminium parts for the Hard Disk Drive are EN (electro nickel) coated with a thin layer of nickel.

EN (Electroless nickel) plating is an auto-catalytic reaction used to deposit a coating of nickel on a substrate. Unlike electroplating, it is not necessary to pass an electric current through the solution to form a deposit. This plating technique is to prevent corrosion and wear.

Electroless nickel plating has several advantages versus electroplating. Free from flux-density and power supply issues, it provides an even deposit regardless of workpiece geometry.

Second, Notion is in the near future commissioning an aluminium anodising line for coating most the camera components and adddition of pigment.

Anodisation, changes the microscopic texture of the surface and can change the of the metal near the surface. Coatings are often porous, even when thick, so a sealing process is often needed to achieve corrosion resistance.

The process is called "anodizing" because the part to be treated forms the electrode of ant. Anodized aluminium surfaces, for example, are harder than aluminium but have low to moderate wear resistance that can be improved with increasing thickness or by applying suitable sealing substances. Anodic films are generally much stronger and more adherent than most types of paint and metal plating, making them less likely to crack and peel.

Precision washing technology
Notion uses a highly experienced problem solving team and state of the art cleaning equipment program to handle the most difficult cleaning challenges our customers have.

Waste water treatment
In order to be a good corporate citizen respecting the environment, the Notion Group has established industrial waste water treatment covering all water waste produced by the Group to comply with all regulatory requirements.

Industrial wastewater treatment covers the mechanisms and processes used to treat waters that have been contaminated in some way by industrial or commercial activities prior to its release into the environment or its re-use.
